Director of Discipleship, Congregational Care, and Hospitality
The Director of Discipleship will have a personal, active, and growing relationship with God through Jesus Christ and will set an example of an authentic Christian life. They will be familiar and in agreement with Grace Community Church’s mission, ministry, and theology.
The Director of Discipleship connects guests with the ministries of the church, oversees the connecting ministries, and provides pastoral care. This person is comfortable meeting new people, is passionate about seeing people connected with others for support, care, and accountability, and is able to offer personal support, counsel, and prayer to members of all ages in the congregation. This is a full-time position. While this position offers flexible hours during the week, the Director of Discipleship is expected to work on Sunday mornings and Monday nights.
The primary way that discipleship happens is through small groups. This person will recruit, train, equip, and support small group leaders. They will also be responsible for coordinating rooms, communication, and resources for the small group leaders.
This includes meeting one on one with people who need Christian conversation. This could include crisis and grief conversations. Hospital visitation and shut in visitation as well. Ideally this person could work with a team to restore the Stephen Ministry so that this ministry is shared with others in the body of Christ.
This person will work with the lead pastor to oversee the welcome and assimilation of guests. They will coordinate teams of lay people who serve in the greeter ministry and welcome center ministry, follow up with guests, coordinate the new connections class, and ensure a warm and welcoming atmosphere for new guests.
