Lent 2020 – Week 4
Welcome to the fourth week of our Lenten journey. This week, we will:
- Focus on The Lord’s Prayer: “Give us this day our daily bread…”
- Read Matthew 6:25-34
- Fast Tuesday
The Lord’s Prayer
I think it’s safe to assume that we all worry about different things. This part of The Lord’s Prayer forces us to look at the fact that God is our Sustainer and Provider for every need…..He is Sovereign (in full control) and trustworthy. As we focus on this part, think about all the times He’s met a need for us at just the right time….and pray for the ability to trust in His will at all times.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
Scripture for March 15-21
Don’t forget to sit and soak, as we read God’s Word. It’s important to listen intently and rely on His Word to mold us and form us into His image.
Matthew 6:25-34
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendorwas dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Fasting
This week, we will again fast breakfast and lunch on Tuesday. See Jeff’s previous post regarding fasting…..especially if you are unable to fast from food for dietary/health reasons. The key is to sacrifice something in order to specifically focus on the LORD.
I’m praying your journey so far has been as rewarding as mine! Keep it up! And remember…..if you stumble, get back up, shake it off and start again. You have people walking alongside you to help in the difficult times.
