Lent 2020 – Week 6

Welcome to the sixth week of our Lenten journey. This week, we will:

1). Focus on The Lord’s Prayer: “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

2). Scripture = 1 Corinthians 10:12-13

3). Fasting = Tuesday breakfast and lunch

The Lord’s Prayer

Temptation is something we all struggle with to some degree. Some of us struggle more than others….and we are all tempted by different things. To some, it may be alcohol, drugs or pornography. To others, it may be food, gossip, anger, doubt, fear…..the list goes on and on. As we pray through this line of The Lord’s Prayer this week, allow the Holy Spirit to show you the area(s) where you struggle with temptation and ask the Lord for guidance in how to withstand…..and then put it into practice.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.  Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.  Amen.

Scripture for March 29-April 4

Don’t forget to sit and soak, as we read God’s Word. It’s important to listen intently and rely on His Word to mold us and form us into His image.

1 Corinthians 10:12-13

12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! 13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Fasting

This week, we will again fast breakfast and lunch on Tuesday. For any questions regarding fasting, please see Jeff’s previous post on the topic…..especially if you are unable to fast from food for dietary/health reasons. The key is to sacrifice something in order to specifically focus on the LORD.

It’s easy to be tempted to slip into areas of “stinkin’ thinkin’ ” in times like these. Our adversary loves to distort and manipulate our thoughts in order to shift our focus and take captive our minds. But, we can battle back by focusing on the TRUTH of WHO God is, WHAT He’s done and WHO He’s calling us to be.

Praying fervently for each of you….-Stephen
